Antisemitic incidents are at an all-time high in the U.S. According to the Anti-Defamation League, New York leads the nation in these events. In 2021, there were 416 incidents reported, a 24 percent increase from 2020.<br><br>Antisemitism is not a new phenomenon. Join us on Wednesday, April 19 at 1 p.m. for a panel discussion on this topic. We’ll explore the roots of antisemitism, particularly in the U.S., the origins of hatred towards Jews, and how these hate crimes are being addressed today.<br><br>The panelists will be:<br><br>AmyRuth Tobol, Ph.D., a professor in SUNY Empire’s Department of Social Sciences and Public Affairs<br>Ian Reifowitz, Ph.D., SUNY Distinguished Professor of Historical Studies at SUNY Empire, and author of three books, most recently: The Tribalization of Politics: How Rush Limbaugh&#039;s Race-Baiting Rhetoric on the Obama Presidency Paved the Way for Trump.<br>Helene Sinnreich, Ph.D., director of the Fern and Manfred Steinfeld Program in Judaic Studies at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, co-editor-in-chief of the academic journal Holocaust and Genocide Studies, and author of the forthcoming book The Atrocity of Hunger: Starvation in the Warsaw, Lodz and Krakow Ghettos during World War II.
