Description
Please join Officer in Charge Nathan Gonyea and Presidential Fellow for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Frances Boyce as they discuss the true history of slavery in New York state. The discussion will be moderated by David Fullard, SUNY Empire State College visiting associate professor and coordinator for the Black Male Initiative, who will be joined by William Seraile, professor emeritus at Lehman College. In addition to examining the history of slavery in New York state and sites that are historically significant but unmarked or unrecognized, the discussion will also include the role of Manumission Society and discriminatory treatment after emancipation in terms of public accommodations, employment, and voting rights.
